Personal Umbrella

Did You Know That Over 2.6 Billion People Worldwide Were Affected By Natural Disasters in the Last Ten Years? Let Us Make Sure You Will be Protected with Umbrella Insurance

Most people believe to be adequately insured on their homes and personal property. They often forget to think about what would happen if an accident caused damages beyond the policy limits of a standard home or auto policy. If a major accident occurs, umbrella insurance will take over and protect you from paying out of pocket.

Our agents at LF Insurance can guide you through the process to determine if umbrella insurance is beneficial to your particular situation. We are an independent insurance agency, therefore, have access to a wide range of carriers. This mean we examine multiple carriers to find the best coverage for our clients and exactly what they need protected.

What is Umbrella Insurance?

Umbrella insurance is a type of policy that provides protection for the assets and income of the insured that are in addition to the primary policies that are already in place. This type of insurance fills gaps in coverage you may have and insures you beyond that of your primary policies.

Generally, an umbrella policy is considered to be pure liability coverage that provides additional protection above and beyond that is provided by the regular policy. This type of policy can also provide coverage for claims that may not be covered in your primary policies, such as invasion of privacy, slander/libel, and false arrest. At LF Insurance, we advise our customers to think seriously about adding an umbrella policy to your personal insurance coverage if you:

  • Own a home and/or Auto’s
  • Own a boat, RV, and/or motorcycle
  • Have teenage drivers
  • Have a significant income or future earnings potential

How it Works

Umbrella policies are usually purchased in one million dollar increments. If the policy holder has a homeowners policy with a liability limit of $300,000, and an auto policy with a limit of $500,000, with an umbrella policy in place; the new limits become $1,300,000 on the homeowner’s policy and $1,500,000 on the auto policy. Protecting your assets beyond the policy limits is the safest way to know you’re protected for a relatively low added premium.

Lastly, let’s look at a real life situation. Many people enjoy having house parties where they invite a lot of their friends over. Typically at these big house parties, alcohol is going to be served to the guests in your home. The amount of potential risks is huge involving personal accidents or your guests driving home after drinking and you personally could be left open to the risk of being sued.

Even if you think you did everything right with serving food, offering designated drivers and ending the party at a reasonable hour, you are still not going to be protected in the event of an accident for which you are held liable.

Unexpected events happen to good people every day, and anyone can be sued for any reason at any time. The agents at LF Insurance can provide more information about umbrella policies and how they can affect your overall insurance policies. We will use our knowledge and expertise to determine the best programs to keep you protected.
